Sneaky boy!

Posted in kids by Ilma on the 02/23/2007

He’s only two and already trying to be sneaky. We have this box of chocolate covered fruit and nuts sitting on one of the counters in the kitchen. And as a treat, Lukas will get one or a few sometimes. And he will always ask for them. Well today, when I was at the store and Viktor was with the kids, he saw Lukas go in to the kitchen, reach for the box, open it, and take one of the chocolates, go to the room and eat it quietly. That means that tonight was not a first time he’s done it, because he knew exactly what to do. Now we put the box up hire, we’ll see if he notices.

On another note, he is still pooping in the underwear or the diaper, which we only put at night time. And also, he started peeing in the bed while taking his nap. Not sure if he does it while sleeping, or right when he gets up and before gets out of bed. Agh, the whole potty training thing is going backwards, not forwards. He was already not peeing during the day, even at nap times. When we’re out he does good. I bought one of those portable potty’s and we use it in the car when he has to pee (he has never pooped when we’re out, not since he was a baby). So yeah, I really don’t know about this whole potty training thing. I always hear from people potty training their kids in a couple weeks, a month at the most, and here we are working on it for about a month now and it’s not getting better, but worse. Anybody, any ideas?

NO!!!

Posted in kids by Ilma on the 02/20/2007

Lukas has been telling me NO now for a while after I ask him to do something, but lately he’s been saying it with an attitude that I don’t like. I know before he was just saying it just to say it. He was probably copying me, because most of the days that’s the one word that I keep using over and over again. He likes to get into things or to do things that he is not allowed, and so I tell him NO…..(with an explanation). But recently I think he really means NO when he says it, and it just doesn’t sound nice. The worst part is when he says it in public. Like today while at the park when I asked him to bring me his juice cap and a car, he yelled out loud “NO!!!”. How embarrassing is that?! I know that he is just being a toddler in love with a word “NO”, but still, I wish he would not say it. Or at least not in public.

Change of schedule?!

Posted in kids by Ilma on the 02/19/2007

The kids are starting to wake up earlier and earlier. For the past weeks or so they’ve been waking up at 8 am. Ok, now some of you might think that this is not early, but you have to understand that I’m NOT a morning person. I had Lukas on a schedule where he was waking up at the earliest 9 am. Sometimes he would sleep in till 10. And Ava used to get up around 5-6 am, have her bottle, then I would take her downstairs and put her in her swing and she would sleep until Lukas would start making noise. There were times where she would wake up earlier, but not at 8. And now for some reason she started getting up around 2-3 am for her bottle, then get up around 5-6, then I put her in the swing and then she is up around 8. Lukas used to go to bed at 9 and sleep until at least 9 am. He would wake up once or twice at night time, and then around 6 he would come to my bed and sleep. And now that he started getting up at 8 am, we pushed his bed time to 10pm, and he is still waking up at 8.

I love staying up at night time. Thats when I get a chance to go on the internet, or watch TV, or clean without any interruptions. So usually I would go to bed around midnight-1am. Well with the kiddos waking up earlier I will have to start going to bed earlier. I will have to try to be in bed by 11pm. Which I’m not really happy about it, cause I will only have about an hour if not less all to myself. But I will be looking forward to Sunday’s when Viktor can get up with the kids at 8 and I’ll get another hour or so of sleep. I really really LOVE sleeping in in the mornings.

Let the project begin!

My stupid screen door!!!! Spent almost half the day trying to install new screen door and nothing! Back to step one. And now even have more work to do than to just install the stupid screen door!!

Our old screen door broke. The part that got broken was the screws that hold the screen door that are screwed onto the hinges. And the reason for the door breaking – Lukas!!! He always kept pushing them all the way out, and even when they couldn’t be opened anymore, he still kept pushing them. We kept telling him no over and over and over again. But is there a two year old that actually listens? He managed to have fun with the door when we were not looking. Of course!

So I went to Lowes thinking that I could buy the screws and be able to fix the damn door, but nope! They apparently don’t have them and even if they would, the only way to install those type of screws would be with some special type of gun, that shoots them in. So I ended up getting some regular screws the right size, thinking that I could just use them, but again, nope! They are too long! And if I get some shorter ones they will not stay in. And so we decided just to get a new screen door. Thinking that we could install it ourselves. How hard can it be?! Well, it’s a little harder than I thought it would be. Viktor thought it wouldn’t be hard either. And we are both wrong. But only because of the way the door frame is made. (if that makes sence). The people before us, had the screen door installed backwards (this may not make sence, but it’s kind of hard to explain). And so there was this gap on the top and on the side of the door, that was really annoying. So with the new screen door, if I were to put it in the right way, the door knob would be in the way. And if I were to put it backwards, then there would be even a bigger gap, which would annoy us even more. I looked at my neighbours screen door, how it is installed, and she has these wood strips attached to the frame of the door, and thats where her screen door is attached. And it makes it look all nice, with no gaps.

So now my project is to find the right size of the wood strip and try to attach it to the door frame, and only then trying to install the screen door. It’s kind of a PITA, but it has to be done. I love having my door open on the nice days, but without the screen door I can’t do that, because the little ones will run out. Unless they are strapped into their chairs and eating or are asleep.

To some of you this project might seem like a piece of cake. But you see, my husband is NOT a handy man at all. So he has absolutely no idea what to do. And now you’re probably thinking how the heck I, a women, would know how to do this. Well I learned everything from my dad! Maybe not everything but a lot of things. My dad can do everything and anything. Seriously. From plumbing, to electrical problems, to building houses, to remodeling things, to building kitchen cabinets and such, to installing the screen doors, he can do it all! Infact right now he is building an extension to our summer house that he built about 20 years ago. He is adding a second floor to it. And I used to always be there to help him with things, and thats how I learned a lot of things. Of course if my dad was here, the screen door would’ve been in and forgotten about it. I could have him fly over here and help me out, but paying over a thousand dollars for his ticket just wouldn’t make sence. I might as well could hire someone. But I will put that damn screen door in soon! And then I will post some pictures.

Keeps going and going and going…

Posted in kids by Ilma on the 02/12/2007

You know that commercial for the batteries with a little pink bunny that keeps going and going and going? Well I think Lukas has those batteries inside of him, lots of them, because all day today he just kept going and going and jumping and dancing and running and climbing and crawling and sliding (down my couches) and more jumping and more climbing and……..  From the minute he woke up this morning he started jumping on my bed while I was still sleeping until the minute he went down for the night. And for that one hour in the middle of the day when he was napping. Other than that he didn’t even sit down to do a puzzle, or to draw, etc. He was even jumping and dancing while watching TV. Not for one minute did he sat down. He has never done this before like the whole day. I mean he is a very active kid thats always on-the-go, but he will sit down for a few minutes here and there and “read” a book or build blocks, or color. I really hope that this was first and last day he was like that. Now I feel so tired and excausted and I didn’t even do much today except going to the gym for a little. I really hope that there will be less going tomorrow. And the thing that scares me is that Ava is always watching him and is attached to him most of the time. Soon there might be two of them that will be going and going. She already crawling everywhere all the time and getting into things. I just can’t imagine what will happen when she starts walking. But since she is a girl, maybe she will sit down and play with the dolls and be the opposite fo Lukas. But that’s not always true. I never sat down and played with dolls, I was just like Lukas that kept going and going. But we can hope, right?

It’s all a blank

Posted in Uncategorized by Ilma on the 02/11/2007

For some reason lately as soon as I sit down to blog, all my thought dissappear and I sit and stare at a white page trying to type something up, and nothing. I will think of something to write and as soon as I open the Write Page, my mind goes to a blank. I’m not sure if that has anything to do with the sickness thats going on around in this house, or maybe its the vine. If this keeps continuing I’ll have to forse myself to at least write a sentence down, even if it does not make any sence. Does this makes sence?

I couldn’t even come up with a title for my last post. That’s how bad my mind works these days.

The most exciting news is that Lukas only wears a diaper at night time! Yay! About two weeks ago we went to no diapers at nap time. So I decided to take a next step and leave the house in underwear and jeans, packing an extra pair in the bag. And while we were out last Saturday and Sunday for about 5 hours each day, the boy stayed dry. I kept asking him if he wants to go but he kept saying no. And after drinking a whole cup of juice and then falling asleep in the car, I thought for sure he will wake up wet, but he was as dry as he could be. I am so proud of him! He even asked to go potty when he had to poop. (something you probably don’t want to hear). But he only did that once, and after that started pooping in underwear. I’ve heard stories that they will be afraid to poop and will be holding it in, and it can last up to a week, but not Lukas. He just poops in his underwear. And I’ve tried to explain to him a gazillion of times that we do not poop in the underwear, but he keeps doing it. So if anybody has any suggestions, please share.

And little Ava is starting to walk. Holding on to couches, she’s slowly walking around them. She is also scrawling very fast. In a few seconds she can crawl accross the room. The only thing we’re still waiting is for her to get some teeth, so that she could be eating more of our food instead of the baby food. She is starting to refuse baby food and wants to feed herself, and we’re very limited on what we can give her. And with the baby cereal that she used to love and eat a bowl of it mixed with some apples or bananas or pears, now she wants nothing to do with it. I’m hoping that maybe on Viktor’s birthday she will get tooth. Lukas got his first tooth a day before Viktor’s b-day.

And yes, we are sick again. Actually we’ve been sick most of the time. We were sick for two weeks, then got better for about a week, then the kids got sick for another week, then got better for a few days, than I got sick, I get better, then Ava gets sick, and it starts all over again. Ugh! I hate the flew season! I’m thinking of getting us all flew shots next year and we’ll see how we do then.

Potty training

Posted in kids by Ilma on the 02/01/2007

Only in the last couple of weeks I’ve been really putting my energy in potty training Lukas, keeping him in underwear all day long, except for naps and night time. And if we go out somewhere. And let me tell you that it has been going good so far! He does have accidents, 1-2 a day, and some days he’ll stay dry all day. I’m so proud of him!

And today actually is the first time he is napping in his underwear. He was laying on my bed today and just fell asleep, so I did not want to wake him up. So we’ll see how he does. I really hope he does not pee in my bed! Well, at least he is on Viktor’s side. ;)

Pooping is another story. He has only pooped in potty/toilet a few times, and I think they were the accidents. he was trying to pee so hard that the poop came out too. (gross, I know). I just hope he doesn’t get to the point where he would not poop for like a week and be all constipated. That would be not fun.
