Did you see it?

It was on February 20th, 2008. I almost missed it, but thanks to my cousin for calling me and reminding me I saw it and took a few pictures. They’re not the best quality, but still are interesting to see.

Update on “Not again!”

About a couple weeks ago I posted about the kids being sick in “Not again!”

Well I called pediatricians office and they told me to come in on Friday. Just to check them out before the weekend. I got an early appointment at 8:15 with my favorite doctor. She wasn’t worried about the bloody nose, as it only happened once. And with the dry weather that we were having, it’s not unusual to get bloody noses, especially in children when they pick it. And my kids love to stick their fingers up their noses, especially Ava.

Since they were both having the same symptoms, they tested Lukas for flu. It was negative. Then they tested him for strep throat (I asked them to since we were already there), it also came back negative. But since it is winter and all kind of viruses going around, they probably had one of the other viruses. She said they should start getting better over the weekend, and if by any chance they still have fever by Monday, to come in and see them. But we didn’t have to go in as they did get better over the weekend and now they are back to normal.

But, speaking of the fever. Before we left for the doctors on Friday morning, I measured their temperatures and they both had it between 101-102, so without giving them any medicine I headed out. I’ve never seen the nurse that called us in. She just seemed so ‘cold’ and not friendly. She takes their temperature with one of those temporal thermometers that they use. I ask her what it is ans she says “It’s normal”. I could see it and it showed 98.6 for one kid and 98.7 for the other one. I was like what the heck? How could this be? But the way she did scan their for-heads, I wasn’t really surprised that it showed lower. She barely even touched their skin. It’s like she just scanned the air. Even the doctor noticed that Ava was warmer then what the thermometer reading said. When we got back home, I measured their temperatures and they both had it around 101. I also use the same kind of thermometer, but for the home use. Their fever was gone by Saturday.

My exciting trip!

Have you ever been late to your plane?

On my last trip, last week, I was late to my plane for the very first time. It was due to the stupid LA traffic. I had a direct flight from LAX to Denver. My plane was scheduled to depart at 6:25 pm. We left the house at 4 pm, thinking it will take us at the most 1.5 hours to get there, and then I will still have one hour before the departure. And since I didn’t have any luggage to check in, I really didn’t need to be there earlier.

Usually it takes us about 30-40 minutes to get to the airport with no traffic. The most that has ever taken us to get there with a lot of traffic was 1.5 hours. And trust me, we’ve been to LAX more times then we ever wanted to. So leaving 2.5 hours earlier, should have been more than enough time to get there. As soon as we got on 405 fwy, we were bumper to bumper the whole damn time.

They had a funeral in Culver City for one of the SWAP team members that got shot. Maybe that was the reason that there was a bigger traffic then expected.

Hubby drops me off at the airport and I run like a crazy women to the self check in. And of course it tells me that I’m late and that I need to see one of the check in people. I do get a little print out at the self check-in, and time on it says 6:08. So I still could make it to the plane. People are late all the time. You know how sometimes you’d be sitting in the plane and waiting for who knows what, and then one person gets on the plane short of breath and looks like a hundred wolfs were chasing them. And a few minutes later the plane starts to move. So there are people that do get in late.

I walk up to the counter and this guy says that I’m definitely late and that there is nothing he could do. Here I am standing and begging and crying for them to still let me in, there is still some time. There is still 15 minutes before the take off, I could still make it. No, he send me to the other lady, this other lady send me to the other lady. Well by then it is 6:15. She tells me I am too late and the gates are already closed. So I have two options:

  1. Wait until tomorrow and get on the other direct flight. The flight would be leaving LAX around 1pm.
  2. I can stay and try to get on the other 2 planes that will be flying to Dallas, TX. and from there to Denver, CO. I would be on a stand by. The first plane leaves 12:40 am to Dallas, and the other one leaves 1:10 am, also to Dallas. Then there are two planes that are going to Denver, one at 8am, the other one at 9am.

So I choose the option two. A little crazy, but better then getting there almost a whole day late. I am only going there for 4 days.

I have a lot of time to kill. Good thing I brought my cell phone charger with me as I was on the phone a lot and the phone would’ve died in a few hours. Around midnight, the gate for the first plane changes. There are so many people! I never thought that there are planes leaving after midnight, but apparently I was wrong. They open up the gate, the little monitor comes on and it shows that there are 49 people on stand by. Forty-nine people!!! What in the world?! Did they all miss the previous flight or what?! I’ve never done the stand-by thing before, so I never really knew how many people to expect. I thought maybe 10 at the most. But 49?! Only 10 people make it to that plane. I was number16. Yup, I’m staying and hoping and praying that I will make the other flight. This flight that was supposed to leave 12:40am, did not leave till after 1. So the flight that was supposed to leave 1:10, was late. I don’t know what happened, but this flight did not leave till after 3am. I did make this flight though. We started boarding right before 3 and just sat in the plane forever. While still waiting at the airport, I heard them announce that they are waiting for the crew to get there, that’s why this flight was being delayed. Don’t ask me why or what or how. Wouldn’t you think the crew should have already been there? Anyway, I was just happy to be on the plane.

Since I didn’t leave LAX till around 3:30am, I was late getting to Dallas and making my other flights. We got there just before 9am, Dallas time. I knew that I already missed the 8 o’clock flight and probably the 9 o’clock one too. I had to take this train thing to get to my gate, and once I got there, the gate said Phoenix. What the heck?! They changed the gates from C17 to C27. The reason I got to gate C17 is because when the plane from LAX landed in Dallas, they announced the connecting flights, and mine was C17. I had to walk pretty far to C27.

Of course when I got there, there were no people and the gate was already closed. There was still a lady behind the table there. I show her my ticket and tell her that my previous flight was late, so now I’m late for this flight. She looks it up on the computer and sure enough, I am late. She tells me that I’m on a stand-by for another flight. She picks up the phone and calls someone (I’m assuming someone in the plane). She tells them that Ms. xxxxxx is here, hangs up the phone and tells me to run down the ’sock’ to the plane. Opens the door for me and I run run run. I make it to the plane. I guess for some reason this plane was being late as it was supposed to leave at 9, and a little after 9 it was still there.

As soon as I sat down in my seat, I crashed. I was so tired. Don’t even remember when the plane took off and when it was landing. Once the plane hit the ground and you know there is that shacking going on for a few seconds, that’s when I woke up.

I ended up getting to Denver 12 hours later. But I did have a good time while I was there, and that’s all that matters!

Here are a few pictures I took from the plane on the way back.

Not again!

And her I am stuck at home again. This time the weather is really nice, but the kids are sick and from what it looks like, they are not getting any better. I thought Lukas was, until his fever went up to 104 tonight. Again. I woke up Monday morning and came downstairs with Ava and noticed that part of my hand was bloody, all dried up. I thought what the heck?! I have no scratched or anything on my hand. Check my nose, it’s not bloody. So I wash it off and start making my coffee. In about half hour or so, Lukas comes down and his whole face is covered in blood, so are his hands. I thought he might have picked his nose sometime in the night.

After my coffee and some breakfast I was about to start getting ready to go out for a walk, Lukas comes up to me, gives me a hug and I feel that his head is very warm. I take his temperature and is 101. I think to myself, “Oh no! this can not be happening! the weather is georgeous this week, I have all kind of plans on going out and all, he can not be getting sick.” In a few hours his fever was up to 104. Not good!! There comes a bottle of Motrin.

To make a long story short, three days later he still has fever. It will go down to around 100 after some Motrin, and then about 5-6 hrs later it goes back up to 104. He didn’t even want his milk. Although he was drinking juices with water. Now he is sound asleep after some Motrin and with his Daddy by his side. If the fever comes back up that high tomorrow, we will be making a trip to the doctors. Not the place I really want to go because of all the other illnesses that are going around and I’m sure doctors office’s are just filled with all kind of bacteria at this time.

Monday night we put Ava down. About half an hour or so after we put her down, I could hear her tossing and turning and making some whining noses here and there. I check on her before I go to bed and her face is all covered in blood. I tried cleaning it off, but she wasn’t happy about it so I let it be until the morning. I checked her temperature and it was normal. Next day she wakes up with a fever. All the same symptoms as Lukas has.

It makes me wonder though if the bleading noses were just coincidense for both of them, or it has something to do with the cold/flu/bacteria or whatever else they have. Maybe that is one of the symptoms. *shrug*

Tomorrow will be day 4 for Lukas and day 3 for Ava. I really hope and pray that they start feeling better tomorrow.

And I’m doing everything and anything just to not get sick. I am leaving for Colorado this Friday.

Something to look forward to

I have something BIG to look forward to!! And thanks to my wonderful hubby I will be going away for a weekend. Actually I will be gone for 3 full days and 2 part days. I am going to Colorado to visit my cousin. Alone. By myself. No kids. No husband. As much as I love them all, I do need some time for myself. With it being winter season and rain, I was starting to get crazy at home all days. I cound’t really go to any indoor place because the kids were a little sick here and there. Wonder why I took a loooong brake from blogging? Because not much was happening around here and I was just in one of those moods where I just coudn’t write about anything. But it looks like now we are getting back to normal.

Anyway. I’m looking forward to my trip. There is also one of Lithuanian singers – Žilvinas Žvagulis, will be touring US and having concerts in random cities. And Denver, CO will be one of them. Yes, we will be going to see him too, and afterwards we will all have dinner. How cool is that?! Here is a youtube video of one of his many many songs.

The only thin I’m not looking forward to is the cold weather and probably lots and lots of snow. Now I do like the snow and all, but it just got nice and warm here and I’m really enjoying it. Going back to the cold, actually colder weather, I don’t know, it could not be fun. But I’m still going!! Yay!!

Snow day!!

Who says it doesn’t snow in California?! There was so much snow that the kids were sliding down the hills of snow. Take a look!

img_6506.jpg

This one place had snow for the kids to play.  I didn’t know what to expect, so I brought jackets, hats, mittens, and dressed them warm. I was a little worried about their shoes, since I only had them in tennis shoes. I don’t have any snow boots or water proof shoes, and really didn’t want to buy a pair for only one time use. I even borrowed a snow suit from a friend for Ava. I didn’t know if the snow would be fake, you know, the kind that those machines make, or if they brought some real snow from the mountains. I didn’t know it it was going to be indoors or outdoors. (I forgot to ask them when I talked to them on the phone, and then just never got to calling them again to find out). I thought that if it was going to be indoors, it would probably be cold inside to keep the snow from melting. And since it was 70-75 degrees outside that day, I knew that the kids would be warm.

I told Lukas about the snow the night before and the whole evening he was talking about it:

L: “I want to go to snow.”

me: “we will go tomorrow”

L: “I want to go to snow now”

me: “Now it’s late and dark and we will go to the snow tomorrow.”

The whole night he kept insisting that we would go now.

We get there and there was this BIG pile of snow in a parking lot. Kids are climbing on it, some are sliding down, some are throwing it at each other, some are shoveling.

If you were to ask me, I would say it’s crazy. But if you were to ask Lukas, he would tell you that it’s fun. And he did have lots of fun!! I wasn’t sure if he was going to climb that “mountain” of snow or even touch it. Well he did it all!! He even went down the “snow slide”. They had those big plastic bins that you sit in and go down the hill. (you can see in the pic above) He was playing with the snow. I even needed to put some gloves on him because his hand were turning into small little icicles.

It was wet and kind of dirty. But what do you expect when it is 70 + degrees outside.

He did pee in the toilet!!

But not the real one. The one that belongs to a little play house. Go read about it here.
