We did it! Today we moved Princess to the Kapitonas room. With her bed and all (or should I say a pack-n-play. Long story about it that I will save it for another post).
A while ago we decided to get Kapitonas a low loft bed. We knew that we were going to move the kids together in one room for while, and loft bed was our best option. Temporarily Kapitonas can sleep on the bottom. Most of the loft beds that I’ve seen don’t come with mattresses on the bottom, but we would get one, because that’s where the Princess would be sleeping. So while the kids get used to the idea of having a new cool bed in their room, we’d have Kapitonas sleep on the bottom, unless he really insists on sleeping on top, and have Princess sleep in her play-pen. If Kapitonas decides to sleep on top, then we’ll put Princess on the bottom and see how it goes.
Anyway, we moved her play-pen before their naps. I was kind of nervous thinking that she might not sleep and that Kapitonas would wake her up. His naps are shorten then hers and sometimes when he wakes up, he’ll just start crying and/or calling for me while still in his bed. So we tried it today for a nap and it went very well! Princess fell asleep right away and when Kapitonas woke up, he just came downstairs. Quietly! When he came down he told me that he was very quiet with the door, because Princess is sleeping in his room. Awwwww, how sweet!
Now they’re both asleep, for the night I hope. But it was a little battle with Kapitonas. Princess went down very easily! The night is not over yet, but so far so good with her.
Kapitonas wanted me to lay down with him. You know, like I do every single night. We told him that now he’ll be sleeping with Princess in the room and that he is a big boy and doesn’t need Mommy to sleep with him. So after i tucked him in and left the room he started crying. Quietly. Because I told him that he can’t cry because Princess is sleeping there and he better not wake her up. After few minutes he left the room and came downstairs.
“I want to sleep with Mama” he said.
No. You have Princess in your room and you’re sleeping together. Another reason I won’t sleep with him is because he keeps peeing his pants. Not fully peeing, but just getting them wet enough because he is so lazy to go to the bathroom. (he’s been potty trained for over a year now, so there is no reason he should be peeing his pants). So I told him yesterday, that if he wets his pants today, that I won’t lay down with him. And guess what?! He peed his pants today. Not once, but twice. And I know that some of you might think that it’s a harsh punishment, or that he’s just having accidents. Those are NOT accidents. That’s just being lazy while watching TV, or playing with cars and not going to the bathroom. Like I said, he doesn’t full on pee, just lets a little out, just enough to wet his underwear and a little bit of his shorts. As for the punishment, well, that’s our last resort. We’ve tried everything. Oh and this peeing doesn’t happen ALL the time. He can go on for a week and stay dry and then for a few days he’ll get wet. Or he’d get wet for 3 days and then one day he’s dry. He really knows what he is doing! Also, with this “punishment” maybe we’ll kill two birds with one stone. Maybe he’ll stop peeing and maybe he won’t need me to go to sleep. I am literally his “security blanket”.
I have to tell you that I do LIKE sleeping with him. We’ll cuddle and we’ll tell each other I Love You, we’ll look into each other faces and smile, etc. But he is almost 4, and it is time for him to start falling asleep and sleeping on his own.
I can still tell him that I love him, I can still look at him while I’m tucking him in and smile, I can still cuddle with him before falling asleep, I can still do all those things without me having to sleep with him.
Well it’s been a little over an hour now and no one is coming down and I don’t hear anyone crying. Wish us luck tonight and hopefully tomorrow will be easier.
